Meet The Judges
Doug Buchanan – “Pride of Columbus” Judge
The Pride of Columbus Category was designed specifically for Central Ohio companies and can be submitted in any of our regular 98 categories. It was created to showcase some of the great work being done on brands that operate and contribute to our local community. The discounted submission rate of $30 helps smaller companies participate in the competition and potentially gain recognition for their outstanding work in marketing, advertising, and creative.
Doug is editor in chief of Columbus Business First, the No. 1 source for economic development news and networking events in Central Ohio. He’s been reporting on the local business scene for more than 20 years, starting as a banking reporter and covering other industries in that time. He was the managing editor at Business First for nearly a decade before taking over as editor in 2017. Prior to getting into journalism, Doug lived in Japan for three years after graduating from Wittenberg University. He also holds a master’s degree in journalism from Ohio State University. He has two adult sons and lives in German Village.
By day, she works as a Lead Experience Designer at Digitas Chicago, and by night, she’s a dog whisperer to her goofy pup, Zoey. Christin has worked in a wide range of fields: from crafting the greeting cards you spend hours in an aisle reading, to designing digital experiences that tap into other kinds of emotional needs. She loves finding opportunities to grow her skills through new experiences, all while finding the humor in it all.
Mark Anderson is a Food Network personality, as the co-host, co-creator and writer on The Grill Dads series, and a host and judge on various other shows on the network, including Guy’s Grocery Games. Prior to his work in the entertainment industry, Mark was an advertising executive focusing on experiential and social media. Most recently, he was a Partner and Chief Experiential Officer at the agency, Omelet, in Los Angeles. At Omelet he won a Clio, multiple awards from Event Marketer Magazine, and was short-listed at Cannes.
Mark’s clients included HBO (Game of Thrones, VEEP), NBC/Bravo, AT&T, Microsoft, the Academy Awards, Showtime, and Fox. He is also a Today Show contributor, and the creator and host of the upcoming NPR podcast Fishing with Foodies, which is a celebration of Idaho’s emerging food scene.
Janlatae’ (Jan) Mullins is an award winning writer, producer and freelance director based in Atlanta, GA. She directs narrative short films, music videos, and branded content, and is commercially represented by BARK BARK in Atlanta and Revolution Pictures in Nashville. Her commercial credits include work with Fox, Paramount Pictures, Bravo, Focus Features, Hershey’s, Discovery Family and OWN. Her short films have won numerous awards including Best Director at The Black Women in Film Festival in 2015 and Best Screenplay in 2018.
Janlatae’ latest film “Soul Fire”, won the grand prize for the 2017 Inagural Jack Daniels Gentleman Jack Real to Reel short film competition in association with Code Black Entertainment. The film just completed a multi-city screening and press tour with celebrity ambassador Omari Hardwick and Gentleman Jack. Soul Fire is Executive Produced by Maxie McClintock and produced by Nina Marinov and Nick Dimondi. Janlatae has also directed promotional spots for the award winning show “Queen Sugar” on OWN, commercial spots for Pantene, a branded series with Allstate and a dance film for Grammy nominated artist Gavin DeGraw. Jan is a true believer in the power of collaboration. Her tenacity to run after honest performances and soul provoking visuals makes her a great choice for any talent driven narrative or commercial work.
