Now Accepting Nominations for the Prestigious Silver Medal Award

The American Advertising Federation’s Silver Medal Award was established in 1959 to recognize men and women who have made outstanding contributions to the advertising industry and who have actively furthered the industry’s standards for creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concerns. This award DOES NOT require that the person be or have been an AAF Columbus member.

Our Silver Medal Jury (Past Presidents and Silver Medal recipients) uses the following criteria when making their selection:

Contribution to his/her Company. The recipient must have achieved success in one of the following areas of work: advertising agency, advertiser, media or advertising service.

Creative Ability. The recipient must have shown a consistent, high degree of original thinking in their field.

Contributions to the General Advancement of Advertising. The recipient must have worked to increase the stature and raise the standards of the advertising profession.

Contributions to the Community. The recipient should be someone who has been active in civic, religious, or other groups dedicated to human or social welfare.

How is the award bestowed? Each May, AAF Columbus bestows this coveted award upon an outstanding community leader.

Past Silver Medalists include Columbus advertising legends such as Bob Wiseman and Vickie Easterday, Donna Teach, Betty Clark, Nancy Kramer, Pete McGinty, Barry Shawgo, Randy Malloy, Stephen Fechtor, Ron Foth Sr., Rick Milenthal, Kirk Phillips, Fred Coe, Dan Morris, Mindy Hedges, Charlie Rath, Marvin Brown, Bill Wickham, R. Steven Johnston, Anne Weaver, Linda Row, Guy Salvato, Perry Frey, Cameron James, and so many more.

This year’s recipient will be honored at our annual Awards Luncheon on May 15th at Scioto Country Club.

How do I submit a nomination? You must be an AAF Columbus Member to submit a nomination. If you are a Member and wish to submit a nomination for this prestigious award, please EMAIL the following basic information to Kelly O’Brien. It should be clearly marked “2020 SILVER MEDAL NOMINATION” and EMAILED to aafcolumbus@aafcolumbus.org. If you are NOT a member, you may email a recommendation to aafcolumbus@aafcolumbus.org who will find a current member to endorse your nomination and move it forward.

Please include Name, phone number(s) and preferred email address of the person you are nominating, along with their complete business address or, if they are retired, home address.

You may also include biographical information about your nominee in the narrative aligns with the Silver Medal Criteria listed above. If you prefer to NOT to write that narrative, the nominee will be contacted to provide his or her own biography. But, please understand that most people prefer not to brag about their own accomplishments. Self-written information seldom “sells” the nomination.

Be sure to include your name, company, phone number(s) and preferred email address.

Please note: In recent years, voting has been VERY close. So, if you have submitted a nomination before but that person was not selected, we urge you to do a quick update and enter your nominee again this year. Our Silver Medal Jury, which is made up of Past AAF Presidents and Silver Medal honorees, will consider all nominations.

Deadline for nominations is 5 pm on Monday, March 13, 2020.

IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, please email Kelly at the AAF Columbus office, aafcolumbus@aafcolumbus.org
